You will then have the rest of the day free for you to explore the village and get to know the locals.

  • Day 1: Thon Tha – Khuổi My – Lủng Vai – Ha Thành – 18 km – steep route

You’ll start the day at about 8AM with a local breakfast and getting to meet your local guide. The trek will then commence around 8.30AM. You will hike through a valley route up the mountain linking the villages of Thôn Tha and Khuổi My. Your local guide will tell you some facts about the Dao ao Dai ethnic minority group, and their households located at the edge of the highest mountain in the Northeast Vietnam – the Tày Con Linh peak. In the afternoon the hike will continue through Ha Thành village, famous for its stunning waterfall, where you can dip your toes or go for a swim. You will spend the night at the same homestay as the previous night.

  • Day 2: Thon Tha – Nam Te – Màu Phìn – Xà Phìn – 16 km

At 8AM, be ready to start your trek to Xa Phin hamlet – called “small Hoang Su Phi”. Stilt houses with their roofs covered in thick green moss at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level, the Tay Con Linh mountain range that outlines the whole area of the Xa Phin hamlet, Phuong Tien commune that settled the mountainous area, and the Vi Xuyen district with its marvelous rice fields, all contribute to the unique beauty of the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang. The cool weather in Xà Phìn hamlet creates favorable conditions for plants to thrive, especially the green moss that grows on the palm-leaf roofs of stilt houses in the area. With cool weather all year-round, Xa Phin village is often cloudy, covered in mist with high humidity accompanied by drizzle. Make sure to pack an outer layer to protect your from the weather. You will spend the night at a Dao ethnic homestay in Xa Phin.

  • Day 3: Xà Phìn – Nà Màu – Phuong Tiến – Thôn Tha – 18 km

Xà Phìn hamlet is a part of the Tày Con Linh mountain range, that is famous for its ancient tea tree. One of the most famous teas of this region is the Ancient Shan Tuyết tea that grows in the Tày Con Linh mountains at the altitudes between 1300 to 1700m above the sea level. Shan translates to ‘high mountain’ and Tuyết translates to ‘snow’, so there is no wonder the climate in the mountainous region is very suitable. Shan Tuyết is an essential part of the Vietnamese tea culture, each tea bud is hand picked, by a member of the local ethnic minority group that lives in the area, from the ancient trees aged from 150 to over 700 years. It would be a shame if you missed out on the tea making experience whilst you’re here! In the morning you will go harvest some tea in the forrest with a local tea expert. They will educate you about the Vietnamese tea culture, the impact and importance of climate on different types of tea, types of tea grown in Ha Giang, and most importantly they will show you how to properly brew your morning cup of tea. After your tea experience you will have lunch at a local homestay, followed by trekking back to Thôn Tha through the breathtaking, buffalo filled, rice paddies. Dinner will be served back at your homestay in Thôn Tha. Afterwards you will be taking an overnight transport back to Hanoi.
