Ha Giang Trekking Tour Itinerary
Night 1: Arrival to Thôn Tha village
There are several buses available from Hanoi to Ha Giang, including both day buses and overnight sleeper buses. The bus ticket is not included in the tour package, but our team can assist you with the booking process.
Upon arrival in Ha Giang, our transfer driver will pick you up and take you to your homestay in Thôn Tha Village, located just outside Ha Giang City.
You will then have free time to explore the village, walk around the surrounding rice fields, and meet local residents. Enjoy your first evening experiencing the peaceful atmosphere of a traditional Tay village.
Day 1: Thon Tha – Khuổi My – Lủng Vai – Ha Thành – 18 km – steep route
Your Ha Giang trekking tour begins at around 8:00 AM with a local breakfast and an introduction to your experienced local guide.
The trek starts at approximately 8:30 AM. You will follow a scenic valley trail leading from Thôn Tha toward Khuổi My, gradually climbing through the surrounding mountains and villages.
Along the way, your local guide will introduce you to the Dao Áo Dài ethnic minority community and explain more about their traditional lifestyle, culture, and homes. The route offers spectacular views of the mountains surrounding the Tày Con Linh range.
In the afternoon, continue your Ha Giang hiking tour through Ha Thành Village, an area known for its beautiful natural waterfall. Depending on the weather and conditions, you can cool your feet in the water or enjoy a refreshing swim.
After the trek, return to the homestay in Thôn Tha for another night with your local hosts.
Day 2: Thon Tha – Nam Te – Màu Phìn – Xà Phìn – 16 km
After breakfast, prepare for another day of trekking through the remote mountain landscapes of Ha Giang.
At around 8:00 AM, begin your trek toward Xà Phìn Hamlet, sometimes referred to as “the small Hoang Su Phi.” The area is characterized by traditional stilt houses, moss-covered roofs, mountain scenery, and spectacular rice fields.
Located at approximately 1,000 metres above sea level, Xà Phìn is surrounded by the Tày Con Linh mountain range. Its cool and humid climate creates ideal conditions for the thick green moss that grows naturally across the palm-leaf roofs of traditional stilt houses.
The village is often covered in mist and clouds, particularly during cooler and wetter periods, creating a peaceful and atmospheric setting for a trekking tour Ha Giang.
Your route takes you through local villages, mountain paths, and agricultural landscapes while offering opportunities to observe traditional rural life.
In the evening, stay at a Dao ethnic homestay in Xà Phìn and enjoy a more immersive local experience.
Day 3: Xà Phìn – Nà Màu – Phuong Tiến – Thôn Tha – 18 km
Your final day combines trekking, local culture, and one of Ha Giang’s most distinctive agricultural traditions: Shan Tuyết ancient tea.
Xà Phìn is part of the Tày Con Linh mountain range, an area famous for its ancient tea trees. Shan Tuyết tea grows naturally at high elevations, generally between 1,300 and 1,700 metres above sea level.
The name “Shan Tuyết” refers to the high mountain environment where the tea grows. Some ancient tea trees in the region are estimated to be between 150 and more than 700 years old. Local ethnic minority communities have traditionally hand-picked the young tea buds from these ancient trees.
In the morning, join a local tea expert for a tea-harvesting experience in the forest. You will learn about Vietnamese tea culture, how altitude and climate influence tea production, and the different varieties of tea found in Ha Giang.
Your local tea expert will also demonstrate how to properly prepare and brew Shan Tuyết tea.
After the tea experience, enjoy lunch at a local homestay before beginning your final trek back toward Thôn Tha.
The route takes you through spectacular mountain scenery and peaceful rice paddies, where you may see local farmers and buffalo working in the fields.
Upon arrival in Thôn Tha, enjoy dinner at your homestay before taking an overnight transfer back to Hanoi.
